New NCAA Picks

tayke2 On 11:10 AM

So after the first two rounds of the tournament, by bracket is mostly busted. I don't have any teams in the Midwest left, and my champ is gone. But I do still have 3 of my 4 Final four teams, which I think is more then most. Well we are down to 16 teams now, so here is how I think it will go down.

Midwest

Northern Iowa vs Michigan State: Perhaps the most impressive thing about NIU's win was that they were leading Kansas the entire time. This was no fluke. They were the better team on Sunday. Now if they played 10 times, Kansas would probably win 7 to 8 times, but that doesn't matter. NIU played better. As for Michigan State, I still hate them for beating my Terps, and the Spartan's are hurting: literally. They won't have their star guard Lucas, and while the Spartans are March monsters, I'm a NIU believer.

Winner: Northern Iowa

Tennessee vs Ohio State- Tennessee has had arguably the easiest route to the sweet 16. They knocked off a solid San Diego State team, and then beat up an Ohio team that somehow dominated Georgetown. Ohio State has impressed me. I had them losing to Georgia Tech, but they looked very solid. And more importantly, Evan Turner is getting alot of help.

Winner: Ohio State

Northern Iowa vs Ohio State- This could be a great game. I won't go into as much detail on the "potential match ups", but I think the Cinderella story ends here. As we have seen in past tournaments, the cinderella rarely makes the final 4(George Mason the only exception last decade). And I think Ohio State ends the story here.

Midwest winner: Ohio State

West Region:

Syracuse vs Butler
- With all due respect to Northern Iowa, I'm not sure I was more impressed by a team's performance in one game then I was when Syracuse utterly dominated an upset minded and very good Gonzaga team. Butler meanwhile, also hasn't been extremely tested against UTEP and Murray State. I think Syracuse is far and away the better team, and they will show it.

Winner: Syracuse

Kansas State vs Xavier- Xavier seems to have a home in the sweet 16. The A-10 powerhouse has been there three years in a row. Meanwhile, my Final 4 pick Kansas State has looked very impressive so far, and I think they will keep that up.

Winner: Kansas State

Syracuse vs Kansas State- While Syracuse has been playing better then anyone this tournament, I have to stick with my Final 4 pick. Going with the upset here, but this is more of a sticking to my guns then actually thinking they will win pick.

West Winner: Kansas State

East Region:

Kentucky vs Cornell- I don't think any team benefited more from Kansas's lost then Kentucky, who had sure they wouldn't let the same thing happen to them. On the other hand, Cornell has looked like a 2 seed, as they have been dominating their opponents so far, throttling Temple and Wisconsin. I think it was Bob Ryan who put it best: if they were playing any other team, Cornell could be this year's George Mason. Kentucky will be too strong.

Winner: Kentucky

Washington vs West Virginia- This will be very interesting. Washington looked very impressive vs New Mexico, but how much credit can we give them for beating New Mexico. Even as a 3 seed, they are a mid major. And while West Virginia has looked great, they have lost their starting guard. I still think WVU has too much, and I think they pull it out.

Winner: West Virginia

Kentucky vs West Virginia- I'll keep this one short. With Kansas out, Kentucky is the most talented team left, and its not too close in that department. The only thing that will beat Kentucky is themselves, and while they are young, I don't see it happening here.

East Winner: Kentucky

Duke vs Purdue
- Duke has also looked quite impressive, as they were never threatened by Cal. And give props to Purdue, who are in the Sweet 16 despite being without their star player. But their run ends here. Duke will have too much.

Winner: Duke

Baylor vs Saint Mary's- Baylor almost blew it against Old Dominion, but they held on after a bit of a sweat. For Saint Mary's, I don't think you can argue that Omar Samhan is the tournaments most outstanding player. And I think they continue it here. The strength of Baylor is their guard play. The strength of the St Mary's play is their big man. I think the Big man wins out here.

Winner: Saint Mary's

Duke vs Saint Mary's- You have no idea how much I want to go with Saint Mary's. In fact, I almost did. But I thought about it and I think Duke has the tools to win this game. Brian Zoubek has the size to contain Samhan, and Duke has too much guard play. I'll be pulling harder then anyone for Saint Mary's, but Duke wins this.

South Winner: Duke

My new Final 4: Ohio State, Kansas State, Kentucky, and Duke

Keeping it short: Kentucky vs Kansas state with Kentucky winning. Thanks for reading.

Mini FTOPS ends

tayke2 On 12:00 PM

And it was a pretty big disappointment for me. I think I played like 10 events in total, and I'm quite certain that I didn't cash in one of them. I had alot of hopes for today, and had three shots at it, but they all ended up without any money.

1st event: 26 buck 6 handed KO

This tournament started out slowly for me, losing about 1k of my starting 5k stack when I doubled up in a standard AA vs KK all in preflop cooler. From there, I built it up to about 12k, then proceeded to vary back and forth between 4k and 12k for about 3 hours. Finally, about 700 from the money, I got it all in preflop with a stack of equal size with 1010. He flipped up JJ and I couldn't catch up. The hand was pretty standard. He raised utg and got one caller and I squeezed and she shoved. I coulda folded it, but if I win the pot, I'm sitting at 25k and have a good shot at a deep run.

2nd event: 22 buck omaha heads up

I was pretty excited for this tournament. I played it in the last mini ftops, and made it all the way to the round of 64 before I had to leave for a Blink 182 concert. (totally worth it awesome show). So I was ready to get back there, and it started off well. I won my first match in about 25 hands when I had a flush draw and huge straight draw that hit on the river and I got paid off. In the 2nd match, I played a very tight opponent, and was one of the last 50 matches left. I pretty much had the lead the whole time, and I ended up winning, putting me in the bubble round. I played a very aggressive opponent, and had to sit on my hands until this hand came up. As he had done all match, he raised the button but this time I three bet with KQ107 double suited. He called and the flop came 982. I bet 480 and he raised to 1480 and I shoved. He called and show some crap like 8654. 2nd pair and an inside straight draw well played sir! Turn brought a 5 and the river bricked out and he won the pot. Again well played sir! Oh well.

3rd event: 50 buck mini ftops Main event.

The big one on the day, it didn't last too long for me cause of a pretty sick final hand. I had played mostly tight and let others at the table do the crazy plays. I had about 5k of my starting 7500 when I limped in early position with 33. After two others limped, the button raised to 360. It was a pretty big raise, but knowing the other limpers were gonna come along I decide to gamble and call. The flop is a beautiful J32 with two diamonds. It checks around to the button raise who bets 700. I called and the button who was a loose bad player called as well. Turn was a 10 of hearts, meaning 2 flush draws. Didn't think I could give another free card, so I bet 1k into the 3700 pot. The loose player shoved all in, and the button thought for about 15 seconds and shoved over the top. If they have JJ or 1010 oh well gg to me. I call and the loose player flips J10 for 2 paid and the button has AK of diamonds. If I can dodge a Q,J,10, or diamond, then I will have 17k in chip with the blinds at 30 60. The river comes...a 10 of diamonds. Lol go from 1st to worst. Lame. My mini ftops in a nut shell.

Well after my big last couple of runs, I'm sitting on about 3200 in my account with 2500 coming in the mail. Not sure what is next for me. I'll probably cash out another 1500 and leave myself with about 1500 or so to play with. Don't think I'll have any casino tournaments coming up, so mostly online stuff. If my addiction to the god of war series doesn't get in my way :) Thanks for reading.

March Madness Thoughts

tayke2 On 11:46 AM

After the best two days in sports, we are down to 32 teams in the NCAA tournament. And there are alot of teams that are impressing(mid majors and Pac 10) and those that are disappointing(Big East). Here are a few of my thoughts on each region.

Midwest

Seriously Georgetown? SERIOUSLY?! Its one thing to have a close game and lose at the end, but its another thing to be absolutely dominated by a team that went 7-9 in their conference and had to run the table as a 9 seed in their tournament. This could go down as one of the most embarrassing games in recent memory. They didn't even show up. Maryland looked very solid against Houston, and with Michigan State's struggles, I like their chances. And Georgia Tech could be very dangerous.

West

Murray State probably provided the new buzzer beater to be seen for a long time to come. Good for them, but for some reason, in one of my brackets, I had Vandy in the elite 8. Lame. And quite a game between BYU and Florida they could give K State some trouble.

East

Wake killed me with that last second shot. I had Texas beating Kentucky in the next round. Keep an eye on that next game I think Kentucky is pretty vulnerable they are maybe the most talented team in the nation but they are also the youngest and cockiest. Could be a tough combination. Also very impressive showing by Cornell they could very well knock off a Wisconsin team that will not be able to outscore Cornell in a shootout.

South

Old Dominion played incredible defense to shut down potential All American Luke Harangody. They could give my final 4 pick Baylor alot of trouble in the next round. And Villanova laid a giant egg against Robert Morris and they should have lost. The refs really blew that jump ball call in overtime the ref who called the jump ball and backed down needs to grow some balls and call the game evenly. St Mary's is looking very good right now they could be this year's George Mason.

The rest of the weekend should be a great one and I can't wait. Tomorrow I will be playing 3 mini ftops events. The 26 buck 6 handed KO, the 20 buck omaha heads up, then the big one, the 50 buck main event. As always I'll be tweeting updates at my twitter tayke2. Thanks for reading.

Biggest Cash of my Career

tayke2 On 11:05 AM

After going through a slump of not cashing in 26 straight tournaments, I broke through last night, and in quite a big way. I took 4th in the 50 50 for 3700 bucks. The 50 50 is a 50 dollar buy in with a 50k guaranteed prize pool. I final tabled this tournament in 2008, but only got 7th or 8th for about 1500. So here are a few hands that I can vividly remember. I wish I had all of the hand history but this will have to do.

Ok well the most important thing in this tournament was that I established an image of a very aggressive preflop player. I was making alot of raises preflop with alot of marginal hands and alot of my money came from simple blinds and antes take downs. Here was the first big pot I remember. I had built my stack to about 70k which was a monster at the time, but then I lost a few big pots and was all the way down to 20k with blinds at 500 1k. But I tightened up a bit, and got 1 double when this hand came up where I had 60k. This is where my image comes in handy. I pick up the beautiful AA and make a standard raise in last position. The sb thinks for a bit and shoves for around 55k so just under my stack. I insta call and he flips....A5 offsuit!! Well the flop is one of the worst it could be. 10105 with two hearts. He now has a pair and backdoor flush draw. Of course the turn is the 8 of hearts, and now I have a ridiculous sweat. The river blanks and I double to about 100k.

Then with about 90k, I call the big stack utg raise with 55. The flop comes 653 two diamonds. He bets 13k. I decide to put a small raise in there to 29k. I did this because the board looked great to me. Any over pair and he is shoving, and my bet looks weak like I'm trying to steal the pot. He thinks for about 20 seconds and shoves and I snap call with my set. He shows AQ and he's all but drawing dead. I double up big.

I then remember getting moved and going on a huge run of sick hands. Very first hand blinds at 1500 3k I call a small raise with 75 of hearts. The flop comes 1034. He bets small about 10k and I call to float(I'll get back to this in a bit.) The turn is my gin car, the 6 of spades. I decide now I'm going to bet small, about 9500 into a 30k pot. He calls. The turn is a Q of spades completing a flush. I'm not too concerned by this, and I bet 20k. HE min raises to 40k. Wow what to do now. I decide to just call, and he shows a bluff K7 offsuit and I take the big pot.

Going back to floating. This is the concept of calling a bet on the flop in position with nothing with the intention of bluffing the river if the guy checks to you. I did this literally 4 or 5 times last night with success in all of them. A perfect example. I called a raise on the button with Q10 and the flop came K46. This is the perfect board to float on. He continuation bet and I called. The turn brought a blank, and he checked. I bet 20k and he folded. The reason that its a perfect board to bluff at is because he can only play back at you if he has 1 of the 3 kings in the deck or a set. Chances are he missed it, or has an underpair, and wouldn't wan to commit his stack. When you have the big stack, you have to use it, and I did last night.

Ok so I ride the 250k-300k stack to the final 3 tables when this hand comes up. I have about 275k the guy has about 250k. I call his small raise in the bb with K5 suited. Flop comes Q98. I check and he bets I call. Turn is a K I put a bet in there of about 29k pot has 60k and he calls. Two clubs on board. River is a 10, meaning the board reads Q98K10. I decide to bet 50k and he thinks for just a few secs and calls and shows K9. Good call on his part and lame for me that he had two pair. If he has AK there, I doubt he's calling me. This put me at about 190k, and about 5th with 18 to go.

Well at the final 2 tables, I didn't get many cards. Made a couple steals but that was it, and now I was 7th at the final table. I was confident though for 2 reasons. The guy to my left and the guy to my right. To my right: an FTOPS champ who was raising every other hand, but often folding when played back at. I knew I could get some chips from him. And to my left, a crazy player who made ridiculous over shoves anytime he had a decent hand. Just needed 1 big hand against him. Well after alot of action, the short stack busts thanks to the 2nd short stack, so now I'm the short stack. I pick up A10 of hearts in the bb and it folds to FTOPS. He raises me all in and I insta call. He shows Q5. Flop comes A high and i hold and now have some chips at about 370k!

I mainly got my money by shoving in on FTOPS. Mostly in my bb. I reraise him all in with KJ and didn't get a call. Shoved the sb with A8 after he raised no call. I remember getting up to about 500k when this hand came up. Had QJ spades in the bb and he raised in the sb again. I shove for 400k and he calls and shows A4. The flop comes J high! I hold and now 5 handed everyone is dead even. I take a small chip lead later when I shove with two overs and a flush draw, when this hand comes up.

I'm not sure how I could have played the hand any differently without likely going broke. I call FTOPS raise with 66 on the button. He raised to 62k blinds at 15k 30k. We are about even I have him covered by 75k. The bb calls as well and the flop comes 943 rainbow. BB checks and as FTOPS has done all final table long, he c bets to 85k. I raise to 300k leaving me 400k behind. BB folds and he tanks for about 15 secs before shoving all in. If I call and lose, I have 75k, aka 2 and a half bbs. If I fold, I still have 400k. I decide to fold. The only way I think I could have played it differently is raising to about 270k and saving an extra bb. Oh well had to get caught eventually nice play.

After that, crazy man goes broke, and I have about 450k 4 handed when I get knocked out. And wouldn't u know it: it was thanks to FTOPS champ in a blind vs blind battle. He standard raises in sb and I call in bb with QJ. The flop comes 1094 two spades. He bets 85k I shove 400k and he calls with one of the worst hands I could see:A4 of spades. Now all my spade cards are out, and he can hit a card that would leave me drawing dead. Would have much rather seen A10 or K10. Well the turn is a Q...but its the Q of spades. And I'm drawing dead.

I realllllllly feel like I could have own this one. If FTOPS doesn't shove on the 66 hand, I woulda had 1 mil. Oh well good play by him, and I can't really complain. Up next for me are a few more mini ftops tournies, including 3 on Sunday. Thanks for reading.

March Madness baby!!

tayke2 On 12:00 PM

Ok its the best month of the year, as we are once again just a few short days away from without question the best 4 days in sports: the opening weekend of the NCAA tournament. Now I haven't been paying nearly as much attention this year as I have in years past, which might actually boast well for me, as the experts never usually do well. So I won't say all my picks, but I'll give you guys a few teams to look out for, and who I think will make it to the end.

Midwest Region

1st round upset- San Diego State over Tennessee- Tennessee had a disappointing year after starting in the top 10, and SDSU has had a very upstart and solid year.

Top Seed likely to lose early- Ohio State. They showed how vulnerable they were when they should have lost to Michigan, and while they looked impressive after that, I've never been a fan of the one man teams.

Possible Cinderella- Georgia Tech. They showed how good and how bad they can be in the ACC tournament. They have the talent to make the final 4, but they also make enough mistakes to shoot themselves in the foot and be out in the 1st round.

Winner- Kansas. Hate to jump on the band wagon here, but there is no excuse for them to not win this bracket.

West Region

1st round upset- UTEP over Butler- Another game that everyone seems to have a consensus on. UTEP is very solid and Butler trailed off towards the end of the year.

Top Seed likely to lose early- Pittsburgh. I got a buddy of mine who's opinion I trust who is very high on Oakland, and this Pitt team is no where near the team they were last year.

Possible Cinderella- Murray State/UTEP- There is usually one double digit seed who makes the sweet 16, and I see it coming from here. Both Butler and Vandy are soft for 4 and 5 seeds, and both are solid clubs who could make a run.

Winner- Kansas State- They are extremely talented, have had a tough schedule all year, and Syracuse is not one of the top 4 teams in the country, in my opinion.

East Region

1st round upset- Cornell over Temple. Temple is solid but they could be bummed bout been seeded as low as 5. They could have easily have been a 3 or 4. And Cornell has had quite a good year.

Top seed likely to lose early- Kentucky. Alot of people have Kentucky as a shoe in for the final 4. But I've always been a firm believer that experience is more important then talent. And while Kentucky has the most talent of any team, there is only one player over 21, and the Wildcats could get cocky and slip up.

Possible Cinderella- Wisconsin. There's not much to be had in this bracket, and as a 4 seed, Wisconsin isn't really considered a Cinderella. But Wisconsin seems to make a final 4 every five years, and this might be that year.

Winner- West Virginia. They are flying high after the Big East Tournament, and will be looking to ride their momentum into the big dance.

South Region

1st round upset- Old Dominion over Notre dame. The Irish had a letdown end to the season, and ODU will be fired up. Also keep an eye on Siena vs a Purdue team that is still recovering from the beatdown Minnesota gave them.

Top Seed likely to lose early- Purdue. Look above

Possible Cinderella- Richmond. This is by far the weakest region, and there isn't much to be had as far as tough teams, so why not a Richmond squad who one ESPN reporter had in his Elite 8.

Winner- Baylor. I don't think Duke or Villanova are all that strong. So I'm taking a chance on a young but talented Baylor squad.

Final 4

Kansas vs Kansas State- Winner Kansas

West Virginia vs Baylor- Winner West Virginia

NATIONAL CHAMPION- Kansas. People should get used to seeing National Champion and Kansas together. Everyone is picking them to win, and rightfully so. They are the best team in the nation.

Hope you enjoyed my recap. If anyone has any bracket questions, I'll try to answer them, but like I said, don't take my word on it. The experts never pick correctly. Thanks for reading.

Closing out the Tournament

tayke2 On 12:00 PM

So today was one of the best poker days of my life. I got 1st in a 90 person KO for 600 bucks. I also got a 2nd in the 50 buck heads up for 610. And in the biggest cash for me in a long time, I got 1st in the 30 buck turbo for 2300 bucks. One of the biggest things I pride myself on is closing out once I'm at the final table. I was looking at my stats and I saw something very interesting. In my time on Full Tilt, I have had 194 finishes between 4th and 10th. I also have 151 top 3 finishes. So I have almost as many top 3 finishes as I do bottom half of the final table or final table bubble. Closing out a tournament can be very difficult, but there are a few pointers I'd like to give for those players trying to improve their game.

1. Up the aggression- This can mean different people for different players. For those who are already aggressive, keep you foot on the pedal. For those who tend to play tighter, open your play up a bit. On the final table bubble, alot of people tense up hoping to make the final 9. So this is where you can really take charge. Don't worry about the cards. Worry about the players.

2. Be very weary of stack sizes- This is mainly true on the bubble but also at the final table. The best people to go after are the middle stacks. Its bad to go after the short stacks because they could be committed and will be looking to shove in with any good hand. So you need to have a good hand when you are playing into them. If you play into a big stack, you run the risk of getting bullied. The middle stacks are often sitting around waiting for the short stacks to bust, and will often only play back at you with premium hands.

3. Don't look at the money payouts- This is more of a personal thing then anything. I don't like to look at the money payouts. I think that far too often, people look up what the money jumps are, and will alter their play accordingly. The simple fact is this: the best players don't care about the money. They do, but they don't. They play with no desire to simply work their way up the money later. In order to win you have to be out for blood. Perfect example in the 30 buck today. 6 handed, I had a monster stack, up against 3 small stacks and 2 solid stacks. Anytime the small stacks were not involved, I raised pre flop. No matter the cards. I raised with 83 one time, 10 4 another. There's no reason for them to get involved unless they have an absolute monster. Alot of players would even fold A10 or AJ in that spot, just to move up a few spots.

4. Keep your head- No matter what, this is probably the most important thing. Even the pros sometimes let the tilt get to them, and they go off and before they know it, their big shot at the money( look up Scotty Nguyen 2007 WSOP Main Event). Today for example, I had a couple small suckouts in the beginning of the final table, and I could have gone off my rocker, but I just kept my cool and didn't let it affect my game. Its almost impossible to dodge a suckout in the final table. Its going to happen. If you are lucky enough to not be busto after it, you gotta keep you head. If you lose you head, you're done.

So this ended up being alittle longer then I had planned, but I'm hoping that those who are trying to get better will read and take my advice to heart. If you follow these steps, you will find closing out is alot easier. Good luck at the tables.

Wacky and Wild Tournament

tayke2 On 3:43 PM

So today I finished 2nd in the 50 buck heads up tournament. This was a tournament that really bothered me for a long time. I had probably play it about 15-20 times and only made the money once or twice. But now something has clicked and I've been playing really well. I've made the finals twice in a week(granted I lost both of the finals) but still its a great feeling. Today's tournament was CRAZY. Here are some of the details.

This tournament doesn't get a ton of people. Usually no more then 64 and today was no different it got 61. My first round match was uneventful and I won pretty quickly. Then my round of 32 match was short but interesting. On like the 4th hand with a slight lead, I 3 bet preflop to 500 after he raised to 120 I had AQss. He called and the flop was J108. I shoved all in, and he called with AJ. Nice call pre sir can't beat anything I'm 3 betting that big with. The turn blanked but the river gave me a Q and I was on to the round of 16, the round before the money. This match was one of the most frustrating I've ever had.

Ok so after getting the player down to about 900 from his starting 1500 stack, we get it all in pre flop my AK vs his KQ. The flop comes Q high, and he sucks out to double. We get back to even, he actually had me by 120, when this hand occurred. He min raised the button and I 3 bet with 55. He shoved, and I called and he showed AK. The flop was a beautiful KQ5, and I turned quads for good measure. So gg to him right! Well like i said he had 120 left blinds were at 60 120. Well next hands I'm in the big blinds with....AA! He calls all in with 109. Flop comes Q95. Turn 8. River J. Straight is good for him. Whatever, still only has 240. He doubles on the next hand. I forget details I think it was like J5 vs Q7. Next hand he shoves with J8 and I called with KJ. Flop comes 854. SERIOUSLYYY?!?!?! The turn comes a 6 and river 7, so we chop with a straight on board. But still come on! So the next hand I shove with K5 and he wakes up with 99 and holds. So now we are back to 1600 for me 1400 for him. Well I shove like 6 hands in a row and get him down to 700 when I shove with K4 and he shows....99 again!!! And he holds again. Well now I'm behind and can't believe my luck. Then after a few more hands, I shove with A3 and he wakes up with JJ! I only have 240 left so if I lose I'm basically doneso. I am cursing my luck when the beautiful Ace comes on the turn, and all I can think is justice.

I win my round of 8 and round of 4 match without much opposition. As I wait for my final match, I pull up the other one and see that Full Tilt Pro Michael Craig has the lead in the other. And as I pull up the match, he is all in ahead and wins and suddenly I'm sitting at the final table with him! He declines a chop saying he's preparing for the mini ftops heads up on Sunday, and we play on. He jumps out to an early lead, and I'm down to about 800. I battle my way back, playing patiently and making good bets, and suddenly I have him down to just 800. Then after I make a standard button raise, he shoves and I call with A7. He shows 33 and we have a flip for the title! The board blanks out for me and he doubles. We play pretty evenly when he 3 bets me all in after I raise with K10. I folded. 4 hands later, he once again 3 bets me all in and I once again have K10. I made a slightly frustrated call, and he shows A10. Lame. I can't suck out, and he beats me. After he says "gg very tough match." Whether it was or not, it was nice to hear. GG sir.

Well its been a good day for me. This morning, I won a 26 buck 90 person KO for 600 after knockouts, and cashed out 350 for my efforts. I got 610 for my showing in the heads up, and I'm currently 2nd with 17 to go in the 30 buck turbo. I'll tweet my result later. Thanks for reading.

Winnin O Green Events

tayke2 On 1:58 PM

So last night I played in two events at the Bicycle casino. It was my first live play since January so I was excited about it. The first event was a 120 buy in half omaha hi/lo half stud hi/lo event. I played a similar event to this b4 at the bike, and finished 9th, bubbling the final table, so I was hoping for similar success here. Well it didn't last long, and I won't waste much time on this tourney I'll just go over a few hands.

In the first round of stud hi lo, I started with A245 and missed out. Then I had A248 all spades, and ended with a whopping pair of 2's at the end. Then in the omaha hi lo section, I had J10 on a board of Q984 and we capped the betting to 800. Then a 10 came on the river, and a guy showed KJ10, meaning he had suckout for the nut straight. I ended up with nothin in 2 hours of play, and I was onto the holdem at 7.

This tourney fared much better, it was a 220 buy in with 50 dollar bounties. This meant that for each person you knock out, you get 50 bucks back. So action was fast and furious with everyone looking for someone's head.

Early on I lost half my stack. I had AK and the board was A549. I bet 400 he raised to 900. I called. River was a 7 and he bet 1200 I called he showed A9. Lame. But then a few hands later, I knocked out a short stack with KQ when the flop came K98 and he showed 10 10. So ship one bounty for 50 bucks.

A couple hands later, I had KK, and raised to 300 with blinds at 50 100. I got 3 callers, and the flop came J52. I bet 1200 and one guy called. The turn was an A and he shoved for 3k. Like an idiot, I called, and he flipped the might A4. Well played sir. River bricked, and I was down to 1k, or 10 big blinds.

Ok so the next hand, with 4 limpers, I check in the bb with KQ. The flop came J108, and a guy bets to 450 and got two callers. I raise all in, and get two callers. Turn comes a beautiful 9, and one guy bets the other out. He shows J7, but I show the nuts and more then triple up to 3500.

Then with about 4k, I won a very bizarre hand. I raise to 300 with 97 of spades and the bb called. The flop comes 854 with two spades. I bet 500, and the bb check raised to 2500. I push all in for 1500, ready to gamble. Well he thinks for about 1 minute and folds! I was happy to take it down there.

I was playing aggressive and well, so when I 3 bet a guy's raise to 2k he called. The flop came 10 high, and we got it in and he showed JJ and I held to get up to 12k and the table lead. The 2nd hand after the break, I get it all in with AQ vs a 4k all in with JJ, and the flop came Q high and I held.

That was the tops i would get though. I lost 2k pots to both of the new people at the table, dropping my stack to 12k. One player limped in early position for like the 8th time in 10 hands. I raised to 800 in the bb, and a new guy on the button raises to 2400. The limper folds, and I have to think. I thought maybe he was trying to bully me for trying to bully the limper, so I shove and he calls and shows AA. The flop has two pictures, but both are queens. Sick lol. I brick out, and ship 7k over to him. Down to 4k with blinds at 150 300 I needed to make a move. Facing two limpers, I shove with A9 suited. The guy who crippled me called in the bb, as did one of the limpers. The flop came Q96 and both checked. Turn was a 5 and the bb bet 4k. Limper folded and he showed KQ. I bricked out and was eliminated.

Bit disappointing but with 3 bounties and 150 bucks coming back I wasn't too bummed out. This morning I played my first mini ftops and went out a couple hours in. Got a bunch more left, so hoping for a big score. Thanks for reading.

Sports Hodgepodge

tayke2 On 3:04 PM

So my gf astutely pointed out that I haven't posted about sports that aren't poker in quite some time, so here are my thoughts on a few random things.

Last night, my Terps knocked off their biggest rivals, the Duke Blue Devils, 79-72. Maryland has been playing some of the best ball in the country, knocking off 7 straight ACC opponents, including last nights victory. The Terps were led by ACC player of the year favorite Greivis Vasquez, who has been playing out of his mind in recent games, and is cementing himself as one of the best Terrapins of all time. Here was a great article on espn about him. Check it out.

The NFL draft is fast approaching, and it will be a welcome break for me of all the soon to be constant baseball coverage now that spring training has started. Seriously didn't the season end just like 2 weeks ago?! A video came out today of a freak athlete from South Florida Jason Pierre Paul. I had honestly never heard of him before, but apparently he's a top 10 pick who is drawing comparison to the great Dwight Freeney. Here he shows off his incredible athleticism. Enjoy.

Poker is going pretty well. Had more deep runs yesterday that fell just short. It was turbo night on ftp so I played the 10 buck with rebuys and the 26 six handed KO. Got 32nd in the 10 buck for 73 with first getting like 3500, and got 20th in the 6 handed for 128 with first getting 5k. Lame!! Playing two events in the winning o the green next Weds. I'll post more details later. Thanks for reading

I just wanted a bracelet

tayke2 On 5:53 PM

I woke up super early this morning to grind some of the lower stakes tournaments that I don't always get to play. Between 8 and 9, there are a 10 buck 6 handed tournament, a 5 buck heads up, and the 10 buck cubed. There are also a few others I played, like a couple 26 guarantees, and the 15 buck super turbo omaha and 10 buck heads up that I've had frequent success in in the past.Well today I made alot of very deep runs, and here's a quick recap.

The morning started on a down note with an early elimination in the 5 buck heads up, but I quickly got a good run in the 10 buck 6 handed going, so I was ok. In my low stakes days, I grinded this tournament alot, and its still one I like to play from time to time. It had been a while since i had made a deep run, so it was alot of fun relive old memories so to speak. Well from about 24 people on down to the final table, I played hyper aggressive. 3 betting alot of pots and getting in alot of action with a few other guys who were likely getting pretty tired of me. I had the chip lead going into the final table, and I held it for most of the way to 3 handed. There were about 300k in chips in play, and it was spread evenly throughout all of us. I had been getting into it alot with one particular guy, and while i rarely showed down a hand against him, I almost always had it. And I knew he was getting frustrated. I made a standard button raise with AQ and he called in the bb. The flop came Q104. He checked to me and I bet half the pot and he called. Turn was a blank and he check and I bet 20. He put in a smallish raise to 50k. I figured if u have Q10 gg to me but more then likely he was trying to take me off a pot for a change. I shoved on him, and he called with QJ. We were all but even, so the winner would have a 2 to 1 chip lead heads up. The river....a brutal J of clubs. The 3 outer cost me 400 bucks. Its always frustrating to lose one of those constant battles like that. OT have the guy pegged, only to have FTP let him off the hook. Sucks.

More time went by and I ended up in the money of the 10 buck heads up tournament. I played a variety of opponents, and it was a great example of how you must be able to mix up your play to be successful. I faced one guy who would pot bet every single flop. Against him, I had to sit on my hands, and wait to flop some pairs, and check raise him. In another pot, I had a guy who min raised every button. Against him, I did alot of 3 betting preflop with marginal hands to pick up alot of pots. And in others, I played hyper aggressive against a fairly passive opponent. You have to be able to switch gears in poker, especially in heads up play. I ended up getting to the finals, with first getting 560 and 2nd getting 320. With such a big difference, I asked if he wanted to chop, but he didn't say anything I ended up losing the match. No bad beats here he played a better match. He took an early lead, then play trip 8's on the flop well and got me to shove in on him. So we have a 3rd and now a 2nd

The last tournament was a standard 20 buck HORSE tournament. For those of you who don't know, HORSE is a 5 game tournament, where each level changes the game. It goes limit holdem, omaha hi lo, razz, stud, and stud hi/lo. I consider myself a pretty good all around player, so I was hoping for a good run in this. and I got it. The tournament only got about 68 players, so it only paid the top 7. Well I got to the final table, as one of the 4 bigger stacks. There were 4 good stacks, and 4 very low stacks. All of the low stacks busted, and the 4th place player busted. At this point, there were talks of a deal. I was the severe short stack compared to the others. One guy had 48k, the other 35, and I had a measly 9k. The bet sizes were 500 1k, so I was pretty short. In a chop, the low guy on the totem pole always gets the lesser end of the deal, so I told the guys if I double we talk if not oh well. It ended up being a good decision. As I recall, the payout were in the ball park of 480 fir 1st, 290 for 2nd, and 180 for 3rd, or something like that. I ended up doubling up and one guy fell a bit, so we struck a deal where first got 350, 2nd got 290, and I got 266. I decided it would be good to almost guarantee myself 2nd place money, and in a horse game, with levels that high, it was basically whoever got the most cards that would win.

So after that, I ended up being up around 800 on the day, and cashed out 400 for my efforts. In January, I made it a goal of mine to have 100k in total winnings, with 25k being profit. At the time, my numbers were roughly 75k in winnings, 20k in profit. Now I sit at around 86k in winnings, and 24k in profit. So my goal is looking good.

Next week the mini ftops starts, and I will be playing a shit ton of events. Not sure how many, but at least 10-12. Also, the Winnin O Green is starting at the Bike casino, and I'll probably play an event or two there. As always, I'll post my schedule here as it gets updated, and you can always check my twitter tayke2 for daily updates. Thanks for reading.
