I played a ton of poker on Sunday, and one of the main tournaments I played in was the double deuce. What this tournament is is a 20 dollar buy in that has a guaranteed prize pool of 200k. It's one that I had played a few times in the past, and I had only made one deep run before. But I thought this was going to be the big one, and it almost was. Here is a recap.
I built up a big stack pretty early on. I remember one really big hand that I played really oddly on purpose. I had just taken a good sized pot over this guy, so I knew he had an eye on me. I had about 12k he had about. He made a standard raise on my bb and I called with 74 suited. The flop was a beautiful 753 but I decided to just check call. I know that if he has an over pair, he is 3 bet shoving the flop, and I will need to catch up. The turn brought an ace, giving me a few more outs. At this point, I'm positive he has an over pair, and I knwo that he can't put me on an ace. The river brought a 2, and there is NO WAY he can put me on a 4 here, so I decide to wayyyy over bet the pot and shove all in for 12k into a 3k pot. He thought about it for a while, then CALLED!! He ended up having 99, and I don't think I could have played the hand any better.
From here, I'm mostly going on memory. I have a weird thing where I think that if I'm tweeting it I end up having bad luck lol. And my text updates that I sent my buddy platt have been deleted. I remember a few hands. I remember on at least 3 or 4 occasions on the day I got into huge pots pre flop with AA against KK, AK, or AQ, and somehow managed to hold every time. I also remember that I couldn't win a big flip because of that. I lost a 60k pot with a 120k stack when my AK couldn't catch up to JJ. Then I remember losing a pot to get me to 300k when I had 180k I lost 1010
I had yet to be sucked out on until I lost a huge pot. I had around 280k I think with the blinds at around 6k 12k. I guy overshoved in the sb with A5 for about 140k and I snap called him with 99. He flopped an ace and I couldn'tcatch up. Now I had to grind it back with just about 12 bbs.
I got a big double up to 300k when my QQ held against JJ. From there, I mostly grinded my stack up to about 450k when I got in a big hand with 87. I called a shorter stacks raise with 87 and the flop came 1095. He had little enough that I could afford to shove the flop, and he thought for about 20 seconds before calling with Qj, a very ugly hand for me . No matter though, I hit my 6 on the turn and just like that I have around 650k!
I had about 650k in the bb when the sb shove for about 240k preflop and I snapped off with AJ. He showed AQ, but no matter, I flopped my J and just like that I had about 900k and was a top 10 stack with about 60 to go.
From there, I lost a brutal hand that is sitll kind of haunting me, even though I don't think I can play it any differently. I did a standard raise with A6 suited, and the sb called(he ended up winning the tournament ugh). The flop came A5A. We both check. The turn is a 2, and he bets 92k and I just call. The river comes a 7, and he puts out a big bet of about 230k into a 300k pot. Looking back on it, I don't know what I'm betting there under then complete air or A3/A4. I thought about it for a bit, and called he flipped 22 for a turned boat. Whats brutal about it is if anyyyy other card turns, I standard bet he folds and I have over a million. But as it was, I was knocked down to 400k.
From there, I got a bit frustrated, and sadly I think that my knockout hand was a mistake on my part. I had gotten it back up to about 580k, when I got 3 bet with 77 and had to fold. Two hands later, I raised in the sb with KQ, and an over stack shoved on me. At this point, there is a small chance he has KJ, K10, etc, but more then likely, he has me beat. I do what I hate other people doing, and I call off with KQ. He shows A10, and as I had done all day, I couldn't win a flip. I went out in 37th for 400 bucks.
It was really tough to take. I made a couple mistakes at the end, and one brutal turn card is the difference between 400 and maybe 4000. But thats the game I play!! Its been a rollercoaster since then. I was at 650, then down to 400, then up to 670, then down to 230, now I'm up to 550. Hoping for one big score to get me back on track. Thanks for readin.g
